Volker Schlöndorff is a prolific German director of film, television and documentaries. At the forefront of the New German Cinema movement of the 1970s, alongside Werner Herzog and Wim Wenders, he has directed over 20 films which have been released worldwide. In 1979, he was awarded an Oscar and Palme d’Or for his film adaptation of the Nobel prize winning author, Gunter Grass’s novel, The Tin Drum. He lives and works in Berlin.
